Another wonderful #veryFrench and #veryAsian baker Another wonderful #veryFrench and #veryAsian bakery that I’ve been meaning to share with you for awhile: @duo.patisserie and @duo.cafe. Every item here looks completely delightful (and not in a lame LinkedIn post kind of way) and is super delicate in both flavour and decoration. I have no specific recommendations - just order everything that sparks joy for you! They don’t have a downtown location (yet) but if you have a trip to Markham or Richmond Hill planned, definitely add a stop here to your itinerary.

One of the best cafés in Toronto is “not actual One of the best cafés in Toronto is “not actually” a café, but the hotel lobby of the @acehoteltoronto. It’s hard to find if you’re not looking for it, but once you do, you’ll be glad you stayed awhile. 

Don’t miss out on the snacks (everything bagel croissants, babka and sesame miso cookies pictured)!

Just a few wholesome clips from the start of @zandra_lee’s #Eurovision themed Bach! The Airbnb cottage we stayed in was perfect for a large group and so close to @bluemtnvillage.

Are there any restaurants I would recommend in the Village? No. But I WOULD highly recommend the Ridge Runner Mountain Coaster which was a surprisingly fun treat lol.

Made with a high hydration dough (like focaccia) and a deliberately slightly burnt cheesy crust, Detroit-style has quickly grown in popularity across North America and has become one of my favourite pizza styles too.

For my first trip to Detroit, I decided on Michigan & Trumbull for my pizza experience, and man, was that ever a delicious 8x10 rectangle. I split my order between two bestsellers - “Packard Pepperoni” and “Farnsworth Funghi”. Highly recommend especially if you’re indecisive! 

What’s your favourite spot for Detroit pizza (in Detroit, Toronto, or whenever you are)?

First time trying @banoi_toronto this morning and First time trying @banoi_toronto this morning and I’m reassured that the well-executed French technique/Asian flavour combo is one of my favourite things in the world. Today’s order: fluffy milk bun with giant chunks of satisfying char siu pork topped with a spoonful of sesame seeds, rustic rhubarb apple galette (with a lot of cardamom!), and a nice flat white. 

Such a great way to start the day before another @chuonthisstudio market day at @themakerbean nearby.

Results from the battle of the Detroit-Style Coney Results from the battle of the Detroit-Style Coney Island (Hot) Dogs! 🌭 

Spoiler alert: both @lafayetteconeyisland and @americanconeyisland were started by the same extended family and both serve great versions of the same hot dog. The differences are so minimal, you just got to go with the vibes, or go wild and just try both!  They’re literally right beside each other. 

While there have been many variations on this dog since the first Greek and Macedonian immigrants to New York started popularizing it, Detroit’s Coney has firmly established itself with a distinct style. The most important thing you need to know is that the chili NEVER has beans in it. And if you’re going to add ketchup, know that you will be judged.

You may have tasted Pecorino or Prosciutto before, You may have tasted Pecorino or Prosciutto before, but the next time you’re in the cheese shop/deli, look out for @pecorinotoscano and @prosciuttotoscanodop in particular! Both of these products are only made by a handful (about 20 each) of producers in Tuscany, with very controlled Tuscan ingredients. 

Prosciutto Toscano is more floral and fragrant than some of its counterparts, often with many producers incorporating ingredients like bay leaf, rosemary and juniper berries into the recipe. This is the stuff you want in a sandwiched between two layers of focaccia!

Pecorino Toscano comes in a milder and more aged version, but whichever you choose, this is a cheese for anyone who has ever been “afraid” of a sheep’s milk cheese. It’s mild enough for recipes like béchamel crepes and panna cotta, but carries a distinct punch of deep flavour.
